Massey University Vice Chancellor Steve Maharey presenting the award to this year’s recipient, Anthony Mourits.
I have completed my second year of a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at Massey University. I am from a dairy farming background and was brought up on a 380 cow dairy farm in Morrinsville. This up-bringing has made me realise the importance that the Arable sector plays in the dairy industry; especially through feed crops and pasture developments. I am interested in the future prospects that these aspects hold for the continuing productivity of the dairy sector. I particularly enjoyed studying the pasture and crop agronomy paper this year and will continue studying this area in 2013 through the 300 level papers. I am excited to graduate and potentially enter the primary industries sector in the research area, particularly researching further developing pasture cultivars. I am extremely appreciative for receiving this award and the money will help me greatly control my student debt and help me focus on my studies.
