Emma is from a sheep farming background and developed an interest in cropping through summer work for Fruitfed Supplies last year. She has returned to Fruitfed again this summer and will be working with squash and onions amongst other crops.
The scholarship is paid out in two portions of $2,500.00 each and is only paid if term work is maintained at a satisfactory level.
There were some excellent applicants but Emma’s established employment record and general enthusiasm won her the award. She is looking forward to using the money to reduce her student debt.
Emma reports that she is currently enjoying her studies, is taking 6 papers this semester and particularly likes Arable Production & Technology. The course also has their own sheep on a 6 ha farmlet and uses this to study Pasture Production and Management. Competition is strong among the students to have the heaviest lamb at the end of the year.
Emma still has her eyes open to career opportunities and hopes to become involved in the plants side of agriculture, either through arable and seed production or pasture/animal production.
