Hamish Dunbar – 2020 Scholarship Recipient

Hamish DunbarHi, I’m Hamish. I am now entering my 3rd year of study towards a degree in Agricultural Science at Lincoln University.

Throughout my time at Lincoln I have been exposed to a broad range of what New Zealand agriculture has to offer. Grain and small seed production is an area of interest for me, with it having a large impact on all other areas of New Zealand agriculture. I have taken a particular liking to the production and performance of pasture species, the growing of the seed crop to produce quality seed, the genetics involved with breeding cultivars and finally the production/management of the pasture for stock grazing.

I grew up in South Canterbury, attending Timaru Boys High School. It was here where I discovered my passion for agriculture. Since then I have gained work experience in mixed cropping, sheep and beef, and dairy farming throughout my holidays. Living in town, and with no immediate family involved in agriculture, it has been important for me to network and get to know as many industry professionals as possible.

I wish to express thanks to the New Zealand Grain and Seed Trade Association for this opportunity and support, I am very humbled to accept this scholarship for 2020.
